{{GIVEAWAY}} Kill A Watt Electricy Monitor

A couple of years ago, we installed a wood burning stove insert into our fireplace with the hopes to save on our gas and electricity bills. We spend very little on wood but in order to run the fan (that pumps the heat out) it needs to be plugged in. We have always wondered how energy efficient is this stove? Are we really saving anything by running it instead of the heater?

That is where the P3 Kill A Watt™EZ comes in! All you need to do is plug in the Kill A Watt, and it'll display how much energy is being used, and how much it is costing you per day, week, month or even year. I was a little intimidated at first. What do I know about electricity? I plug things in, they work and that is it. However it took only a minute to set up and if I can figure it out, anyone can.

The only thing that I can complain about is that using the Kill A Watt can be addicting. After I plugged in the stove, my husband and kept sneaking over to the Kill A Watt to see what the usage was. For items that are run for an extended amount of time, like the stove or a computer for instance, the longer you keep the appliance plugged in to the Kill A Watt, the more accurate the reading.

My husband and I were thrilled to find out that our investment in the wood burning stove was well worth it. The usage was well below what we thought it would be - in the picture at left you will see that it is only $2.52/month. We knew that leaving our computers and cell phones plugged in constantly was not a good thing - but we were shocked at how much these items were costing us! Other electricity guzzlers were the DVR and the fish tank of all things!

Are you curious about your electricity usage? Do you want to live a little greener and save a little money on your electricity bills? GeothermalGenius.org is the site that sent me the Kill A Watt to review and is the place to go to learn about Geothermal Heating. The ground beneath your feet is being used by millions for heating and cooling their homes. They state that geothermal heating and cooling is 4 times as efficient and a ground source heat pump costs less to operate. Something to think about, that is for sure.

WIN IT!: One of my readers will win a  P3 Kill A Watt™EZ courtesy of Geothermal Genius

I have an older fridge, but I suspect that having older kids with laptops ... puts our computer usage at top of list. we have 1 work laptop, 3 personal laptops and a desktop in the house. They are all plugged in to powerstrips and when you add in the network printer, modem and wireless device must add up to a significant usage.
