{{GIVEAWAY}} The Little Engine That Could - Tales to Play Game

One of my childhood memories is that of my mother reading The Little Engine That Could to me. It was her favorite children's book and became one of mine as well. Luckily I have children who also love to read, and given their love of trains, not surprisingly enjoy this classic story as well.

When I was introduced to the Tales to Play line of games by Patch Products, I was so excited that one of the games was based on The Little Engine that Could. The line also includes Where the Wild Things Are (ages 6 and up), Mother Goose (ages 3 and up) and The Berenstain Bears (ages 4 and up). The game boxes are cleverly designed like a large book with a cover that opens so that you can take a peak inside. Colorful game boards, 3D accessories and pawns truly bring the book to life.

The Little Engine That Could game comes with "Little Engine" playing pieces and a 3D "mountain" that the players have to chug up in order to make it to the other side to deliver all the toys and candy to all the good little children. Players take turns picking cards that will determine how many spaces their engine will move. The only complaint here is that there aren't a lot of cards and even if only 2 people are playing, you will have to shuffle at least once.

The game is not only entertaining - Jake's and my favorite part is when the train zips down the mountain - but also teaches turn-taking skills, counting and understanding what a "space" is on a game board. I like that no matter who finishes first, each player has the opportunity to ultimately win. Where your train lands after coming down the mountain gives the player an increasing amount of points dependent on how far the train travels. You also receive points for coming in 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Add the points together and you can be the last train off the mountain and still win.
