Both my toddlers know how to work an iPod, my iPhone, a Blackberry and my husbands Android phone. They can't understand why my computer screen doesn't "work" when they touch it and it has taken a lot of time-outs to learn that the wall-mounted TV can't be touched either. I knew it was time for an intervention of sorts and reintroduce a simpler, low-tech if you will, toy. The award-winning CitiBlocs was the perfect solution and everyone in the family joins in the fun.

Here is Luke, my 2-year-old, building his own creation using CitiBlocs:



He is building with the CitiBlocs 100 piece wooden building set in Camouflage Colors. It includes 4 super cool new colors: green, olive, brown, khaki plus natural blocks. There is a building guide included but don't expect too much direction. There are lots of great pictures but no step-by-step directions. Your younger children will need a lot of help making these creations but as you can see in the video, Luke was simply happy making up his own. My husband on the other hand would have preferred more detailed instructions but was able to make the following in less than 15 minutes.

The boys have been using them to build train tracks and tunnels for their toy trains. Once the boys were finished and off to bed, my husband the science teacher, made the DNA project. It takes a steady hand, but it is quite cathartic as you must concentrate when making the more complex designs. The kids on the other hand are just simply having fun. No recharging required.
