And so it begins... Potty Training Jake
Jake is a little over 3-years-old and I have been dreading potty training the kid. He has shown no interest up until a few days ago and I know it is really past time.
I wanted to have options so that when Jake inevitably decided he didn't like something, I could try something else. So we bought some Pull-ups (with Toy Story decorations on them), got a huge pile of training pants/underwear, pulled out the potty chair we purchased a year ago, got a small toilet seat attachment to put over our normal seat and a step so he can reach the toilet. I told Jake about all of this last night and told him we would start tomorrow morning.
Jake woke up this morning screaming, "Big boy underwear!! Toy Story!! Potty!!" What time is it? 7:30am? The kid gets his little mind set on something and obsesses over it - he is so my child. Up the stairs to his room I went and so it began... 30 minutes on the toilet (with the attachment seat)... 15 minutes on the potty chair in the bathroom... 15 minutes on the potty chair in the living room... and then I got an idea. Jake likes to hide in the space between the loveseat and the chair to do his "business" so I put the potty there and SUCCESS!
Then he said he had to go poo-poo. Again, back in the corner and SUCCESS! (I spared everyone and restrained from taking a picture). This is so easy! I rock.
However, since then, he just keeps telling me after he pees in his underwear. It has been a long morning. The word suck has replaced the word rock.
I pulled out a play house/cabana and thought maybe I could make him his own little outhouse. He was so excited. I put the potty in there and he learned how to open and shut the zippered door. He then came out and showed me his wet underwear. Ugh. Then as I was putting new underwear on him, Luke was dancing around with the potty chair on his head. Yuck.
Naptime can not come soon enough. Oh, but I now have an extra load of underwear to wash. Joy.

Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! Goes to School Giveaway
We are a family of educators and so the little boys (Jake and Luke) have been exposed to the concept of school since birth. Every time we pass a school Jake tells me that that school is "his" school. He can hardly wait to go to school and this new DVD from Nick Jr., Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!: Wubbzy Goes to School, was a great way to help him understand what it is all about.
This newest collection of episodes will help ease children’s anxieties about heading off to school and making new friends. Wubbzy Goes to School has 6 episodes including “Who Needs School?.” In this episode Wubbzy is nervous about going off to school for the very first time and decides doesn't need school because he can learn everything he needs to know all on his own. When things don’t work out as expected, and Wubbzy has no one to play with, he realizes that maybe school isn’t so bad after all. In “New Kid On The Block,” Wubbzy learns that meeting new friends can be difficult. Wubbzy learns that friends can come in all shapes and sizes. I loved this episode since I know some adults who could learn a thing or two from Wubbzy!
While this DVD won't be able to solve all the fears that your child may have, it may enable you to start some important discussion between you and your child. Sometimes their fears are hard to put into words and Wubbzy may make it a little easier to help them tell you what they are worried about. It may even help your child avoid any upcoming problems that may arise as school continues.

Red Carpet: Ready or Not, Here I Come!
Thank you to all of you that took the time to vote for my essay on the "Power of Women." All 11 of the essay entrants will be attending Variety's Power of Women luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel and I, along with Jodi of Multitasking Mommy, will be red carpet correspondents!
How cool! How nerve-racking! How overwhelming! How this-only-happens-to-other-people!
This is Variety's 2nd Annual event which honors and acknowledges a select group of women in entertainment who have made an significant contributions to philanthropic and charitable causes. "The goal of Variety's Power of Women campaign high power women in the industry to support the philanthropic and humanitarian causes close to their hearts, to engage their peers and to do the same and to inspire and encourage women from all walks of life to get involved, give back and make a difference."
Last year's recipients included Christina Aguilera (World Hunger Relief), Christina Applegate (Right Action for Women), Anne Hathaway (Service Nation) and Sigourney Weaver (The Flea Theater). When I hear who the honorees will be this year, I will let you know!
I am so honored and excited to be a part of this event. However, there is one thing that is causing me such stress: What do I wear? On a good day, getting dressed entails putting on sweats and pulling my (possibly clean) hair into a ponytail.
I guess there are worse things to worry about.
So again, a huge thank you to all who voted for me and to Honda for this fabulous opportunity.
